I remember shopping with my mother when I was a little girl.  She loved beautiful clothes and, in particular, beautifully made clothing.  She looked at how the lining was sewn and whether the fabric was cut on the bias. She knew what she liked and what suited her. I got a little nudgy as I recall because she really took her time when she shopped.  SAKS was one of the top stores and there were several boutique-like shops where my mother knew the staff, and they knew what she liked.

All has changed and today we are too busy to shop. Instead of shopping at stores, increasing numbers are buying on line.  But we don’t get to see how it looks on us.  A dress can look great in a photo and on a hanger but how it looks on us can be very different.  But this doesn’t seem to matter.

But hold on. We have discovered the next generation of shopping: your own private concierge stylist who shops for you on line and sends you a choice of wardrobe to try on in your own home.   Welcome to the Trunk Club.  You just fill out a profile, tell them the kind of wardrobe you need, and your own stylist sends you a trunk of clothing.  You try on what you like, you return what you do not like and then you pay.  It is unusual at best and it will be interesting to see whether it succeeds. It is definitely directed toward a  young generation and we are wondering if it could work for “grown-ups”.  Take a look and let us know what know what you think:   www.trunkclub.com
