It is simple for us to have a cynical view of big business, even when there is a movement in the right direction. Let’s give H&M the benefit of the doubt and applaud their efforts to find a better solution to the “take, make, waste production and consumption model.” And we all know this is the model that has made them billions on “wear and discard” clothing. It proves that what is good for public relations can also be good for the planet.
Enormous inventories of used clothing end in landfills. Look at the volume of clothing that is shipped out of the US. It tells us that we are massively over producing relative to the available consumers on the planet:
