No industry is better suited to be the change the thinking of consumers than the fashion industry. And it is exciting to see that established brands are looking for solutions to global pollution. In tandem with this week’s climate summit in Paris, Adidas has announced a partnership with an NGO to produce footwear from reclaimed waste from the ocean.

According to the story, “Each year, around 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in the world’s oceans. Because petroleum-based plastics are designed to last, the waste won’t break down for decades. Plastic is a design failure. Once it is produced it never dies”.

Did you know that e-commerce is one of the primary sources of pollution in fashion?  Think about that. Every item that gets shipped is wrapped in plastic. And billions of plastic waste ends up in the ocean.  Not a happy story today but the hope is that fashion can be an agent of change:
