Second hand stores or thrift shops are great places to puruse, especially if you are looking for a special accessory or dress with a certain style. Unusual costume jewelry, or a fringe skirt for a 20’s party might make you the hit of the night for almost no money.
Other shoppers are die hard stalkers of second-hand stores and often find vintage designer apparel that is in pristine condition. The secret is to get to know the owners and managers who will let you know when new goodies are scheduled to come in.
Not surprisingly, New York has some great shops and it is worth finding them so you can visit them when you are in the city. In Boston, we have two favorites: Second Time Around at 176 Newbury Street and Buffalo Exchange at 238 Elm Street in Davis Square, which has a wonderful program that allows you to turn in your furs to support a fund to help injured and orphaned animals.
