The Birkin Bag story is finally resolved as revealed in a recent London Times article by Daniel Dombey.
Hermes says that it is ethically treating crocodiles that provide skins for the bags which cost from $10,000 to more than $400,000. Ms. Birkin had asked to have her name removed after PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) showed the slaughter of crocs at a farm in Texas. Hermes issued a warning and audited the farm’s management practices to insure that the slaughter was humane.
It takes three crocodiles to make one Birkin bag. We have to ask ourselves why these bags are so desirable and why they command such outrageous prices. What do you think?
