News today that there is a relaunch of Bill Blass fashion and design. Those of us of an “uncertain” age well remember the handsome designer from the 70s and 80s. His clothing was elegant and I even remember wanting to copy the interior design of his home. He designed the interiors for Ford Motor Company for their Continental Mark luxury cars. He was as much a social insider as the beautiful women he dressed.
“Fashion is a craft, and an expression of a period of time,” he once said. “But it is not an art – it’s pretentious to be in awe of it.” Specialising in tailored suits and formal cocktail dresses, he also insisted that his designs were not for the woman “obsessed with fashion,” adding: “I don’t pretend to be a Balenciaga or a Courreges – I simply want to make clothes for now.”
But what is being launched is not Bill Blass but contemporary lines and colors with the brand marketed through social media to a young audience who never heard of Bill Blass.
Not sure how I feel about it. Why use his name really? Tell me what you think:
