Perusing Vogue, I am struck by how we have learned over the years to take away looks from the editorial pages so that we do not have to spend thousands of dollars to look au courant. Color, length, cultural connection, shoes, makeup, can be filtered and customized for your look.
We recommend five things to update your wardrobe for the season without spending a fortune:
First are M Gemi shoes, which are beautifully made shoes designed and crafted in Italy. And it is just like ordering custom made shoes but of course sold in the new arena of the Internet. What is interesting also about this company is that they have recently opened a bricks an mortar store in Boston. And that tells us that shopping still matters and trying on shoes is still fun.
The other shoe site we like is Vionics that was recommended by a friend for health reasons. These shoes have customized foot beds for soothing conditions like plantar fasciitis and/or weak arches.
This season, if you buy only one kind of pant, we recommend pencil pants that we saw at The LOFT. They remind us of Audrey Hepburn and we especially like the pants in navy.
As the newest global trend setter, Meghan Markle set the stage for the modified Trench Coat. It is lightweight, almost a stand-alone dress, but very chic. We like the white light belted coat from Bagley Mischka at Neiman Marcus .
We wore them back in the 70s and they are back. Of course we mean the Wrap Dress from Diane von Furstenberg . She keeps going and going and we have to say, so do these dresses that work on lots of body types and can be dressed up or down as needed. They come in solid colored and terrific patterns and they are still affordable. Great look with sandals or heels or glittery flats.
And finally there is always a need for the perfect White Shirt. I happen to love linen, and find the linens shirts in smaller boutique shops. We both love the classic Brooks Brother shirt that now comes fitted. We did a blog last year about the perfect white shirt and we loved Caroline Herrera’s white shirt selections. There is a neat little shop in Palm Beach that sells just white shirts. That tells us that this look never goes out of style. Add a chunky necklace and you are good to go!
Ciao until next time,
Lucy and Claudia
