Last month we wrote about the fact that everyone is watching every search you do online.  So that was when Lucy decided to try one of the banner ads that advertised “an amazing deal on boots”.

So here is the update on Lucy’s “Online Special Deals” shopping experience. Remember, this is how it worked:

The boots were “on sale” 50 % off, and then Lucy got a special credit of $5.00 at check out and shipping was $10. The boots are described as handmade and leather and imported (from where you might ask) and of course there were “verified” reviews that were mostly positive.

Package arrived from Hangzhou City

The boots take 8-20 business days to deliver which means, either, they are made to order or, they are coming by slow mule from very far away. Lucy gave them a seldom-used credit card and her address, knowing that she can look forward to an overabundance of promotions and special customer deals, already being offered 15% off her next order.

And guess what, the boots are great for the price.  When they say imported leather, who knows what kind of leather and maybe we don’t ask, and maybe they will fall apart when it rains.

And here they are!! Not all bad!

But it was a fun investigation and we are sure that other deals in those banner ads are not as reliable.  We guess that the best thing to do is remember Buyer Beware.

Classic Dior 1950s

On to fashion, I watched a documentary last night on the house of Dior, and it was terrific.  I highly recommend it and it may be on Netflix soon.  What resonated was in the workshop behind the scenes there were rows of mannequins from the waist up.  These were described as the various body types and shapes of the important clients of the house of Dior.   Imagine it, being able to see a Dior fashion show, and calling in to say that you want a particular dress and having it made exactly to your shape.  We cannot even imagine the cost of such an experience but it would be so much fun to do it just once. The madame in charge did say that the models in the fashion show were all lithe sixteen year olds but that most of the clients were older with the average age being 53.  So naturally she said the body shapes were different!  Really??  If you have a chance, watch it.

In the meanwhile, look as good as you can with what you have and be grateful for each day.

Ciao
