Who, but Iris Apfel, could say that the entire designer fashion world is “stupid”? She says that designers “create very expensive clothes for women in the 60s and 70s.” And these are the women who can afford them and do wear them. However, she goes on to say that the designers create them for the bodies of 16 to 18 year olds.
And so what is wrong with that? Just about everything as the “kids cannot afford them and the women look like a horse’s ass if they put them on.” So there, take that fashion world! Ms. Apfel can get away with saying this, as she is the indomitable doyenne of fashion at age 95!
Recently, she donated a significant portion of her wardrobe to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. But she is far from retiring or slowing down as she just announced the launch of Iris Meets INC, her fashion collaboration with Macy’s-owned INC International Concepts, as she celebrated her 95th birthday.
While she says that women do not have to “dress their age”, there are certain, what she calls, “common sense rules.” As always, she is a delight to read about and an inspiration for us all, at whatever age:
