While researching the term “women of a certain age”, we decided to see if there was such a phrase for ” men of a certain age.” Several years ago, there was a TV show called “Men of a Certain Age” which ran for a couple of seasons. You have to go deep into Google to find any reference to any other use of the phrase.
In other words, Men of a Certain Age doesn’t seem to exist in Internet speak to describe men. So there we have it again – Double Standard.
Men basically go from being hunks to, well just being hunks with salt and pepper hair as in Richard Gere. We really like men so it does not alarm us that that are forever young, or so they think. But, come on, they have to know that we giggle about them intermittently.
What we found is a great interview with two gentlemen who understand how men can be fashionable at any age, and they say “gender be damned.” They grew up “in a time when men dressed with intention and for the occasion.” The very idea of athletic leisure and baggy pants is “simply unfathomable.” This article from Vogue pretty much nails the issue of older men and their sartorial choices: http://www.vogue.com/13426080/advanced-style-menswear-fashion-ari-derrill-osborn-ignacio/-
And while we are here – one of our favorite shoe stores, M Gemi, has just launched a line of men shoes that are incredible – but we knew they would be. If the men in your life need an upgrade, here is the place to start: http://mgemi.com/men/home
And finally, we love that men’s shaving has come back as big business, with all sorts of new gadgets. What caught our eye is your Grandfather’s razor. Right, the old fashioned razor is back. “Safety razors have been around since the 1800s, when they transformed shaving from a time-consuming barber shop adventure (during which you paid a stranger to hold a straight razor to your vulnerable throat; anyone who’s seen “Sweeney Todd” can tell you why that’s nerve-wracking) to something you could pull off at home, on your own schedule.” Today there is a certain “hipster” value to the traditional razor and it turns out they are more eco- friendly: http://fashionista.com/2016/08/safety-straight-razors-trend?utm_
