Our Monday round up looks at three very different stories. Ellen Degeneres, now the highest paid on-air performer, has launched her own brand for fashion and lifestyle primarily through her website and blog.  images-4 She has the brand identification to draw followers to her site and already has more potential buyers than well-known brands. According to The Audience, a social publishing agency, Degeneres has 4-5 times the level of engagement on Instagram and 14.6 times higher on Facebook.

Developing a brand in fashion and lifestyle seems to be the trend for A-list celebrities who bank on their name and know they can engage their fans, APPAREL_5something that we have seen with Gwyneth Paltrow and her blog, Goop, Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba. We are fairly certain that we will be seeing more celebrities moving into marketing their brand online:

You can make your own bra, but, really, do you want to? It turns out that 75 % of us wear ill-fitting bras or more often, the wrong size. wall-FB57634dfe5ff73This story from Vogue describes the trend toward “Cupperware” parties where women meet and sew their own bras. But better than that, I met a woman over the weekend who had an unusual looking handbag and when I asked her where she got it she said that she had made it. It seems that she recently recovered from breast cancer and so she took the bra cup from the side where she had the breast cancer and turned it into a handbag, including a nipple on the end of it. True story! :

And this last story is remarkable and makes us tired just thinking about it. “Being over 60 — or 70, or 30, or 40 — is nothing to be ashamed of. Rather, it is something to be excited about.” This is a quote from a woman who gave birth to twins at age 60 and is the oldest woman in America to do so. Need we say more?
