Do you know who your friends are? Of course, you say but really? Great article by Kate Murphy in the New York Times called “Do Your Friends Actually LIKE you?”
Did you ever think about this? It is not easy to find out that someone you considered a friend turns out not to even think of you as a friend. And what is a friend anyway?
“Ask yourself who among them are your friends — your true friends. Recent research indicates that only about half of perceived friendships are mutual. That is, someone you think is your friend might not be so keen on you. Or, vice versa, as when someone you feel you hardly know claims you as a bestie.” (not our favorite expression)
This is an interesting perspective and the article has been trending for two days. It goes on to say “Some blame human beings’ basic optimism, if not egocentrism, for the disconnect between perceived and actual friendships. ” They point out that the idea of friendship is often misunderstood and that we now use the word “friend” as a verb, as in “I will friend you” on social media sites.They also tell us that authentic or non-authentic friendships can have an impact on one’s health and well-being:
