One of the topics that caught our eye this week is the debate about whether traditional shopping, as we have known it is really over. Anyone who has gone to Macy’s recently will acknowledge that the stores look woefully neglected – clothes are falling off over stuffed sale racks and, even if you are able to find an item to buy, there is no one to ring up the sale. Macys’ answer, as it seems to be for so many retailers, is to simply shift to on-line. While shopping on-line clearly has it advantages, it can likewise feel that there is too much merchandise and no one to help you.
Is there a better solution? Can’t someone come up with a strategy that brings us back to stores and rewards us with great experiences, fabulous service and perfect purchases? We love the ease of on-line and make suggestions for goods that cannot be bought locally.
However, we strongly believe that shopping should not become defunct. Imagine what will happen to all that real estate after Macy’s closes 100 stores:

Lucy would love to find some different wines to have at home or to bring to a dinner party. And she found this great list to consider, although some may require a trip to the local liquor store rather than the grab and go at the supermarket, but she thinks that the list will be worth the extra stop:

Because her farm life is full of animals, Claudia is more sensitive to the failures of the fashion industry to reconsider the use of animal skins and fur to cover our bodies. Do you know how inhumane the shearing of Angora can be? Here is a great win for PETA around the seldom discussed but just as damning use of Angora:
Finally – we celebrate as we often do the enduring legacy of Coco Chanel. Wearing Chanel # 5, our go to perfume, still gets plenty of attention:
