Imagine you could afford to shop in Rome and Florence for fabulous Italian fashions and accessories. There are those who do shop this way, but for most of us, this is not in the realm of possibility. So we settle for shopping at Nordstrom’s or perhaps Bergdorf’s for select Italian fashions.
But thanks to the Internet, we now have the opportunity to shop, really shop, in Italy. A new web site, Italist, says that it is “the first online marketplace fully dedicated to Italian luxury multi-brand retailers.”
This site features many Italian lines that we never see in the States. There is much more than Prada and Valentino, because the site includes small Italian boutiques, and often at prices less than in stores.
Italist says that they help small boutiques get exposure as well as support for marketing and delivery. They refer to themselves as “an Italian boutique aggregator, culling high-end clothing and accessories from a number of sources.”
It is worth looking at the site and watching it. What we especially like about it is that there are fashions and accessories not available here. Still, what is missing is strolling down the street, window shopping, stopping for an espresso, and people watching in a country that has captured our hearts. Oh well, perhaps next year:
