images-3It is time to talk about it again. After an earlier push for research, new drugs with attendant controversies, and other therapies, menopause has been absent from the drumbeat for women’s healthcare. Too often, the underlying message has been “Get over it”.

Nature gave us this biological thing, something we obsessed over as young teenagers, and then worried about if it came or did not come in our twenties and thirties.  Menstruation is anguish all around.  And then it disappears from our lives, for some quietly, and for others, with a protracted state of distress.images-2

We women need to be able to make peace with our biology. The associated night sweats for those of us who cannot pass through menopause quietly, are nightmarish at best.

The inability to get a good night’s sleep takes it toll on our bodies, our brains and our family and friends.
