We stumbled upon an interesting book this week that was published this past summer. Somehow it escaped our vigilant research on the subject of looking cool.
The book is called The Cool Factor, by Andrea Linett. She is the founding creative director of Lucky Magazine. Lucky Magazine is not a publication that we look at often, because it speaks to a younger generation of women.
But the art of “being cool” is something to which we have all aspired from our teenage years to now. With some trepidation, we opened the cover and guess what? Many of the “cool” women contributors were actually almost in our demographic and their clothing choices and insightful advice were pretty much right on.
To appreciate this mag, one needs to be a little enterprising to get the most out of it. For example, for those who want to achieve the layered look, this is the perfect book for you. It also includes a look at the perfect white T-shirt, the way to use accessories and, even, includes a discussion of grey hair!
And the book’s ten rules to live by carry much the same message that we talk about, including don’t dress your age and find your signature piece.
There is the occasional short leather skirt but do not be put off as this is a book for grown ups who want to celebrate who they are. And that’s you. We give a shout out to Andrea for being smart about who will actually pay attention to her advice. She engages a burgeoning load of women like us who still want to “be cool”. You can find the book on Amazon or at your favorite local bookstore (where we shop).
Here is to being very cool!
