One of primary objectives of this blog is to feature products and businesses that have a social conscience and promote ethical responsibility. These are not simple missions and many companies start out with these intentions but cannot sustain them or find it impossible to continue to develop products that sell in the global marketplace.
With this in mind, we are pleased to highlight the work of Jacqueline Suriano. Her company, Jacqueline Suriano, is based in El Salvador where she designs and produces beautiful leather handbags. Born in the United States, of Chinese descent, Jacqueline was raised in Guatemala and El Salvador. She made the decision to build her business in El Salvador to help young people find skilled work in her workshop.
She speaks to this on her web page: “El Salvador is known for its violence, and gang problems. As a company we want to reduce this violence by creating jobs for young adults who would otherwise turn to violence. Our products are created by artisans in our workshop, using as much local material as we can and applying a fair trade; we work hard to educate, empower, enrich and enhance everyone in the process from production to selling, where they learn how to work with leather and create a handbag from scratch.”
Her passion for both quality products and for social responsibility is a testament to the new generation of designers and businesses and we are rooting for her continuing success. We invite you to visit her site. We love the Kiss clutch!
